Angela Brennan is one of Australia’s best-known contemporary artists. Born in Ballarat, Victoria, Brennan studied painting at RMIT between 1979 and 1981. In 1992 she completed a BA at the University of Melbourne, majoring in Philosophy. Brennan has exhibited extensively in public and commercial galleries, and her work is represented in major public and private collections throughout Australia and overseas. Since 1988 she has had 35 solo exhibitions and been in over 100 group shows. Brennan is represented by Niagara Galleries, Melbourne, Roslyn Oxley9, Sydney, and Goddard de Fiddes, Perth. She has also had solo exhibitions in Auckland, London and Beijing. A major survey exhibition, Angela Brennan: every morning I wake up on the wrong side of capitalism, was held at the Monash University Museum of Art in 2006. Brennan has received numerous awards, including studio residencies in Spain, France and China. Brennan continues to add to her repertoire of painting styles, which includes abstracts, text paintings, portraits, interiors, landscapes and still lives. More recently she has been making three-dimensional works, including ceramics and sculptural installations.
